When stand alone GPS technology isn’t a reliable option, or when even greater levels of accuracy is required, DJI has a solution - the Phantom 4 RTK. RTK stands for Real-Time Kinematics, and is a satellite navigation technique used to enhance the precision of position data derived from satellite-based positioning systems (such as GPS). The Phantom 4 RTK is DJI’s most compact, not to mention most accurate, solution for low altitude mapping.
Cutting Edge, Next Generation Mapping
The Phantom 4 RTK offers centimeter-accurate data, boasting 1cm+1ppm RTK horizontal positioning accuracy, 1.5cm+1ppm RTK vertical positioning accuracy, and 5cm* absolute horizontal accuracy of photogrammetric models (*when flying at 100m height). To achieve centimeter-level accuracy, the Phantom 4 RTK has an integrated RTK module, which provides real-time, centimeter-level positioning data. This module provides improved absolute accuracy on image metadata. A redundant GNSS module is located just beneath the RTK receiver, and acts to maintain flight stability in areas such as dense cities that might have trouble receiving a signal. The two modules together mean that the Phantom 4 RTK has optimized flight safety, and at the same time can capture the most precise data possible for complex surveying, mapping and inspection workflows. Two purpose-built flight planning modes, specifically designed for the Phantom 4 RTK, allow pilots to get exactly the data they need. Photogrammetry and Waypoint Flight let the pilots select the flight path, with the added control of adjusting overlap rate, altitude, speed, and camera parameters. The RTK app was developed with mapping and inspection needs in mind, with a range of workflow features built in. For example, users can directly load KML area files for in-office flight planning. Another such feature is the shutter priority mode to keep exposure consistent across all photos.
TimeSync for the most accurate data
The DJI TimeSync system continually and automatically aligns the flight controller, camera and RTK module, along with any other payloads or onboard accessories that may be attached, to ensure the highest level of precision in the data collected. TimeSync also ensures that the position data of each image is fixed to the center of the CMOS for precise geotagging, and allowing for centimeter-level positioning data. When accuracy down to the centimeter is essential, you can rest easy with the assurance that each and every lens on the Phantom 4 RTK models are individually calibrated, measuring radial and tangential lens distortions. The distortion parameters of each lens are saved into each image’s metadata, to allow post-processing software to adjust uniquely for that particular lens. The 1-inch, 20 megapixel CMOS sensor achieves high quality image data, and a mechanical shutter ensures that images can be taken on the move without risk of a rolling shutter blur. The high resolution means that the Phantom 4 RTK can achieve a Ground Sample Distance (GSD) of 2.74 cm at 100 meters flight altitude.The transmission system on The P4 RTK has DJI's most recent and powerful transmission technology. DJI’s own OcuSync 2.0 is a wireless transmission system the boasts stable and reliable HD image and video transfer at distances of up to 7 km. This level of range and reliability is essential for large area mapping projects.
